5160 steel is exceptionally tough and resilient. It sports a high level of resistance to fatigue, has high ductility, and has good spring qualities useful for applications where flexibility is desired.  Typically referred to as a "spring steel”, it through hardens and has very good edge retention. If ductility, toughness and resilience are desired, 5160 is a solid choice. It will flash rust/patina easily, care for it as you would a firearm and you will be very happy with it.
